Lines of investigations:
-    issues of foreign-economic activity in the Murmansk region, such as foreign commerce, joint ventures, border cooperation, free economic areas, tourism and foreign investments;
-    economic security in the foreign-economic activity,
-    international economic cooperation within the Barents Euro-Arctic region and "Northern dimension".

Main completed research projects:

   Development of a conceptual model for raising the competitive capacity of the regional external economic system (2001-2003). Based on competitive capacity analysis of the region and its foreign-economic activity the project suggests strategic directions for transition to a model "region-quasicorporation", which allows to realize the full potential of the Murmansk region.

   The project also substantiates the opportunities of the external economic development as a condition for "open" economy in the Murmansk region with consideration for its geopolitical location.

   The conceptual items of regional international cooperation within the Barents Euro-Arctic region and "Northern dimension EU" were developed and the main lines of cooperation were suggested.

   The methodical aspects of establishment of various free economic areas in the Murmansk region were determined.

   The project also founds out the stages of transition from economic growth areas to free economic areas.


Current research subject:

   Concept for socio-economic development of the Murmansk region till 2015. Tourism on the Spitsbergen archipelago.

   External economic activity in the region and economic security.

   Concept "Establishment of the economic growth area "Murmansk marine fishery port".

   Conceptual model for raising competitive capacity of the regional external economic system.

   Development strategy for competitive external economic sector of the northern region (2004 - 2006). The object of the study - development strategy for competitive external economic sector of the northern region through cluster approach and competitive opportunities assessment, studies of the conditions and expected aftereffects of various strategic aims, which determine the choice of strategic goals and development priorities.

a) results:

  • The opportunities of the external economic development as a condition for "open" economy in the Murmansk region were substantiated with consideration for its geopolitical location
  • The conceptual items of regional international cooperation within the Barents Euro-Arctic region and "Northern dimension EU" were developed and the main lines of cooperation were suggested.
  • The methodical aspects of establishment of various free economic areas in the Murmansk region were determined.
  • The stages of transition from economic growth areas to free economic areas were found out
