Laboratory of geoecotechnology

Head: S.P. Mesyats

Research areas: Scientific backgrounds and development of technologies for regeneration of natural resources.

A concept has been developed for rehabilitation of industrially impacted environmental objects based on control over regeneration of ecosystem potential.
The created technology for recultivation has been widely implemented:
- Establishment of sod cover without applying topsoil layer on tailing dumps of JSC "Apatit".
- Liquidation of consequences of the Chernobyl NPP accident. Under the given technology thousands of hectares of deactivated areas have been rehabilitated around the NPP.
- Establishment of sod cover within the area of Yamal oil-gas fields.

According to the concept a set of methods has been theoretically proved and implemented on using mineral sorbents to reduce environmental pollution. A technology for manufacture of sorbents and bioactivated sorbents has been developed in compliance with the world high-level requirements.
The efficiency of introducing the sorbents for removal of oil spill, treatment of industrial water and sewage have been proved by full-scale tests and practice.
Several innovation projects of the laboratory have been highly appraised and obtained Grand Prix, 7 gold and 6 silver medals at the international fairs and contests.
