Laboratory of flotation reagents and complex mineral processing

Head: V.I. Beloborodov, Ph.D. (Eng.)

Research areas: R&D in the field of low-waste complex ore processing techniques is based on the development of new flotation reagents and application of combined methods and patterns of concentration.

R&D is based on the use of differences in physical-chemical, crystal-morphological and surface properties of minerals and their strengthening under the effect of flotation reagents, different physical fields and their combinations aimed at improvement of the efficiency of separation processes.
There have been developed patterns of concentration of phosphorus-bearing raw-materials from Kovdor massif, which have undergone through a complete cycle of physical-chemical and pilot studies, pilot and industrial tests and are being applied on the industrial scale.
Pilot tests at the Kovdor GOK have resulted in the development of technical specifications for the design and construction of a concentration plant with the capacity of 4-5 mln t/ore per year.
There are developed scientific grounds for selection of reagents with set properties.
There has been formed a number of new reagents-collectors from the classes of ramified dicarboxylic acids, their malamic and monoether derivatives, as well as high-molecular dialkylbenzosulphonates.
There have been developed methods of enhancement of effecting selectivity and flotoactivity of fatty-acid collector in presence of polyvalent cations by means of its joint application with a number of nonionic surface-active agents.
There has been provided theoretical grounds of their effect in complex dispersed mineral systems. There have been found technological parameters of their synthesis and the possibility of industrial production based on domestic raw-materials.
The application of the suggested reagents in flotation of sulphide-free minerals (apatite, nepheline, kyanite, sphene etc.) allows one to obtain high quality concentrates out of hard-to-concentrate and low grade ores in conditions of complete recycling water system.
During the pilot tests and the introduction, some reagents in the apatite flotation at the "Apatit" JSC and "Kovdorsky GOK" JSC have proved to be efficient and competitive with their foreign counterparts.
