MI KSC, Mining Institute

Laboratory of geomechanics

Head: A.A. Kozyrev, Prof., Dr. Sci. (Eng.)

Research areas:
• Studies of the rock mass stress state.
• Development of methodology and instruments of geodynamical monitoring of the geological medium in mining-industrial systems, prediction and prevention of rock bursts and mining-induced earthquakes.
• Development of scientific backgrounds for solving geomechanical problems of the rock mass condition control in different kinds of mining operations.

There have been developed assessment methodology of the rock mass stress state and the determining of geomechanical conditions of mining operations at all stages of the geological prospection process and the mining of deposits or entities of underground construction.
There have been studied regularities of stresses distribution both in the virgin rock mass of the Kola peninsula and around single mine workings and mined-out area during mining operations.
There has been developed a model of geological medium evolution within a mining natural-engineering system.
The methodology of geodynamical monitoring of geological medium in mining-industrial natural-engineering systems have been grounded and implemented (Kola geodynamical test graund).
There have been scientific backgrounds for geomechanical support of safe mining operations in burst-prone conditions of high-stress masses.
There have been developed and implemented new methods of the rock pressure control and rock burst prevention in underground mining.
An expert system of prediction and prevention of dynamical phenomena in mines has been developed.
