Laboratory of applied system modeling of mining operations
Head: O.E. Churkin, Ph.D. (Eng.)
Research areas: Development of research grounds of information technologies and computer modeling of mining enterprises
and processes, development of data banks and data bases on mineral resources of the north-west of Russia.
To assess the prospects of mining enterprises growth and scientific grounds of the mining of mineral and raw material resources of
the region an information-analytical system has been developed.
Up-to-date tools for implementation of an extended information retrieval system, based on client-server technologies of interaction
with local and remote databases and mathematical techniques of mining-geological and economic information processing.
The information system is based on the possibility of handling 3D models of mining technology entities, which can be implemented via
modeling routines of a special GeoTech-3D graphics editor. The system can be applied for modeling underground and open-pit operations
by research institutions, in the designing, planning and maintenance of mining operations at currently operating enterprises; for
geological and economical assessment of promising deposits; it can also be used for training specialists in "Open-pit mining" and
"Underground development of mineral deposits" at the Murmansk Technical University and Petrozavodsk State University.
Software tools for modeling entities of mining technology are the basis of systems of automated planning, designing and maintenance
of mining operations at such companies as OAO "Apatit" JSC, OAO "Orenburgskie Mineraly" JSC, OAO "Boksity Timana" JSC, OAO "Sevuralboksitruda" JSC.
For a number of promising deposits of the Kola peninsula there have been built databases, geological models and the basic parameters of
mining companies have been determined at the stage of geological-economic assessment.
