       On December, 15, 2008, a session of the commission on awards of MAIK (International Academic Publishing Company) "Nauka/Interperiodika" publishing house for the best publications in journal of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The main awards in chemistry had been given to doctor of sciences (chemistry) Yury Vassilevich Rakitin, academician Vladimir Trofimovich Kalinnikov, academician Vladimir Mikhailovich Novotortsev, Cand..Sci. (chemistry) Sergey Georgievich Khodasevich, Cand.Chem.Sci. Olga Rostislavna Starodub, engineer Valentina Mihajlovna Rakitina («Coordination chemistry» journal, «Journal of inorganic chemistry»). The cycle «Development of theoretical bases of magnetochemistry and structures of complex compounds of transition metals».

        Following the results of the competition of young scientists’ and experts’ papers of the Murmansk region in the nomination "Engineering science" the KSC of the Russian Academy of Sciences obtained the prize-winning places:
        Masloboev A.V. (IIMM-Institute of Information science and mathematical modelling) – the 1-st place is awarded with diploma «Winner of the competition of scientific papers of young scientists and experts of the Murmansk region» and a gift of money for scientific paper «Multiagent technology of information support of innovative activity in the region»;
        Mayorov L.A (IKhTREMS-Institute of chemistry and technology of rare elements and mineral raw materials) – the 2-d place is awarded with diploma and a gift of money for scientific paper «Development of the technology of titanium-magnetite concentrates processing»;
        Adkina Y.V. (IKhTREMS) - the 3-d place is awarded with diploma and a gift of money for scientific paper «Producing titanium coagulants and comparison of their efficiency with the iron and aluminium ones».

        In the nomination «Natural sciences»
       Vishnevskaya O. A (IKhTREMS) – the 2-d place is awarded with diploma and a gift of money for scientific paper «Assessment of the impact of the city landfill for household and industrial waste of the Apatity-Kirovsk district on land and water ecosystems»;
       Dvoretsky V.G. and Dvoretsky A.G. (MMBI-Murmansk marine biology institute) - the 3-d place is awarded with diploma and a gift of money for scientific paper «The Role of mass species of copepods in the formation of Barents and the White seas zooplankton production».

        Following the decree of President of the Russian Federation of December, 1, 2008 # 1703 for significant contribution to the development of science and long-term fruitful activity the director of the Mining Institute academician Nikolay Nikolaevich Melnikov is decorated with order of «Merit for the Fatherland of the IV degree» and the head of a department of Murmansk Marine biological institute Gennady Antipovich Tarasov with Order of Honour.

        Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences decided: to award the V.A.Koptyug prize of 2008 to academician Vladimir Trofimovich Kalinnikov, academician Valentin Alekseevich Chanturia and Dr.Sci.Engineer. Victor Nikolaevich Makarov (Institution of the Russian Academy of Sciences I.Tananaev Institute of chemistry and technology of rare elements and mineral raw materials of the Kola science centre of (the Russian Academy of Sciences) (posthumously) for a cycle of works

        Based on the results of the competition «The Best innovative project and the best scientific and technical development of the year», which was held in the frameworks of the ÕIV international exhibition-congress «High technologies. Innovations. Investments» on October, 22-25, 2008 in St.-Petersburg:
        - In the nomination «Industrial technologies» the Institute of Chemistry was given the diploma of the first degree and a gold medal for the development «Technology of tantalum high-capacity condenser powders»;
        - In the nomination «Information technologies and electronics» the diploma of the second degree and a silver medal for the development «Multiagent system of information support of innovative activity in the region» were awarded to the Institute of Information science;
        - In the nomination "Public health services" the diploma of the first degree and a gold medal were awarded to the Murmansk Marine biology institute for the development «A new method to obtain biologically active substances (BAS) from rockweed».

        On October, 6-7, 2008, the vice-president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation academician Jores Ivanovich Alfyorov visited the Kola science centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the town of Apatity.

        As the chairman of Interdepartmental Northwest coordination council at the Russian Academy of Sciences on fundamental and applied researches and the Commission of the Russian Academy of Sciences on nanotechnologies academician J.I. Alferov got acquainted in place with scientific and educational potential of the KSC of the Russian Academy of Sciences. At a meeting in presidium of the KSC prospects and possibilities of establishing at the KSC of the Russian Academy of Sciences of the national centre of manufacture of strategic function materials, the regional analytical centre for research of the structure and properties of new synthetic and natural nanomaterials and an academic university were discussed.

        The corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Boris Sergeevich Kashin, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, professor of the Moscow state university, a senior researcher of the Mathematical institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a member of the State Duma Committee on the financial market and the scientific secretary of Interdepartmental northwest coordination council, director of the Institute of problems of transport of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr.Sci. (engin.) Oleg Viktorovich Bely, representatives of local and regional authorities took part in the discussion of problems at the Russian Academy of Sciences concerning fundamental and applied research.

        During his visit to Apatity academician J.I Alfyorov met the scientific personnel of the KSC of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the faculty and students of the Kola branch of Petrozavodsk university and the public of the town of Apatity.

       For the long-term fruitful inventive contribution by the decree of the president of the Russian Federation # 1088 of July, 14, 2008 the honorary title «Honoured inventor of the Russian Federation» is given to the leading researcher of the Institute of chemistry Lydia Georgievna Gerasimova and the head of laboratory Efroim Pinhusovich Lokshin.

        For long-term conscientious work, and personal contribution to the development of economic, scientific and technical and cultural potential of the Murmansk region and in connection with the 70-th anniversary of the Murmansk region, the following employees of the Kola science centre have been awarded with: the Certificate of honour of the Governor of the Murmansk region (Denisov V.V., Kozyrev A.A., Korchagin A.U.) Honourary Mention of the Governor of the Murmansk region (Putilov V. A, Khankov S.I., Skufin P. K, Usov A.F., Strokov M. S, Tokarev A.D., Gromov P.B., Pripachkin V.A, Kashulin N.A., Evdokimova G.A, Zhirov D.V., Boykova L.F., Snegov V.V., Lobanova V.P.) the Letter of Gratitude of the Murmansk regional Duma (Bayanova T.B., Makarova E.I., Oleynik A.G.)

        For high achievements in the state and industrial activity which allowed to improve essentially living conditions of people in the Far North, the considerable personal contribution in social – economic and cultural development of the Murmansk region the chairman of Presidium of the Kola science centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences Kalinnikov Vladimir Trofimovich, was given the title of the «Honourable citizen of the Murmansk region». For the considerable personal contribution in social - economic development of the Murmansk region, the vice-president of Presidium of the Kola science centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences Petrov Valentin Petrovich, was awarded with the Certificate of honour of the Murmansk region.

        For merits in professional activity and the considerable personal contribution in social– economic development of the Murmansk region, the main scientific secretary of the Kola science centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vinogradov Anatoly Nikolaevich, was awarded with a badge «Merits for the Murmansk region».

        Following the results of the competition of 2008 for grants of President of the Russian Federation for the state support of young scientists - candidates of sciences and their scientific tutors, Kovalevsky Michael Vasilievich (GI-Geological institute) won this competition.

        For merits in the research activity directed to use and processing of mineral wealth of the Kola peninsula, the considerable contribution in social - economic development of the Murmansk region and in honour of the 50 years of the I.Tananaev institute of chemistry and technology of rare elements and mineral raw materials: The certificate of honour of Governor of the Murmansk region was awarded to: Palatnikov M. N; Sidorov N.V.; Grishin N.N.; Pak A.A.; The certificate of honour of the Murmansk regional Duma was awarded to: Gurevich B.I.; Kuznetsov S.A.; Krasheninnikov O.N; Serba V.I.; Kolosov V. N; Lokshin E P; Gerasimova L.G.; Nesterov D.P.; Honorary mention of Governor of the Murmansk region was awarded to 15 persons; the Honorary mention of the Murmansk regional Duma was awarded to 8 persons; the Certificate of honour of the Head of the city of Apatity: was awarded to 25 persons.

        At the VII-th Moscow International Hall of innovations and investments on March, 3-6, the GI of the Russian Academy of Sciences won one gold medal for development of the "Kola platinum metal province: an innovative method from a forecast to the mine construction" and two bronze ones for developments "New and nonconventional kinds of strategic and extremely scarce mineral raw materials (medals gold, diamonds, etc.): forecasts and the first results" and "New technologies and methods of increase of the operation term of mineral deposits in the open mine: aspects of studying and the analysis of structural heterogeneities".

        The board of trustees and Commission of experts of the foundation of assistance to domestic science announced the names of new winners of competition in nominations and . Among the winners there are employees of the Kola science centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Doctors of sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Gorokhov Andrey Vitalievich (IIMM of the KSC of the Russian Academy of Sciences), Makarov Dmitry Viktorovich (IKhTREMS of the KSC of the Russian Academy of Sciences); Candidates of sciences (PhD) of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Ryzhenko Alexey Alekseevich (IIMM of KSC of the Russian Academy of Sciences), Chufyrev Pavel Gennadievich (IKhTREMS of the KSC of the Russian Academy of Sciences); the Best post-graduate students of the Russian Academy of Sciences are: Shamatrina Anna Mikhailovna (MI of the KSC of the Russian Academy of Sciences).

        By the decree of President of the Russian Federation «On the state awards of the Russian Federation», # 32 of January, 11, 2008 for labour success and long-term diligent work the following persons are awarded: the main researcher Motov David Lazarevich is given a medal «Merits for Fatherland of the II degree»; the head of laboratory Orlov Veniamin Moiseevich is given an honorary title of the «Honourable metallurgist of the Russian Federation»; the head of laboratory Freydin Boris Mikhailovich is given an honorary title of the «Honourable metallurgist of the Russian Federation»; the head of laboratory Zakharov Victor Ivanovich is given an honorary title of the «Honourable chemist of the Russian Federation»; the head of section Kasikov Alexander Georgievich is given an honorary title the «Honourable chemist of the Russian Federation».
