The book contains abstracts of presentations presented a: ie International Scientific Conference "Nature of the Maritime Arctic: Modern Challenges and the Role of Science" devoted to the 75 th anniversary of the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute.
       The Conference was held by the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute in March 2010 in Murmansk. The papers discuss issues of biological diversity and productivity, marine geology and paleoecology, dynamics and evolution of populations, communities and ecosystems under conditions of climate change and man-caused pressure. The book analyzes methods and ways of the rational nature management, protection of water bodies, and restoration and conservation of die Arctic nature. The book also discusses main results of studies on effects of offshore oil and gas production, and radioactive and chemical contamination on marine and coastal ecosystems in high latitudes.
       The book may be of interest to biologists, oceanologists. geologists, geographers, and other specialists, and also to the general public interested in the history of science and vital issues of marine research.
