ALEKSANDR FERSMAN


   Aleksandr E. Fersman was born on October 27 (November 8), 1883, St.- Petersburg, has died on May 20,1945, Sochi. He was an academician of the Department physics and mathematics (mineralogy) since February, 1919, vice-president since January 15, 1927 till November 26, 1929.
   Aleksandr E. Fersman was a director of Hibiny Mountain Station - Kola Science Base AS USSR 1930 - 1945.
He is a well-known Russian geochemistrist mineralogist, one of the founders of a geochemistry, disciple of V. I. Vernadsky. Fersman A.E. took part (as a participant in the examination of Kola Peninsula, Tian-Shnan, Kyzylkumy, Ural, Zabaikalie and other regions. The fields of apatite and cooper -nickel ores were opened in Hibiny with his participation.
   Fersman A.E. gain much attention to the problem of clarkes and migration of elements. He developed a problem of energetics of natural inorganic processes and has offered the geoenergetic theory, in which he linked succession falling-out of minerals with quantity of energies of crystal framework. He was one of the first who substantiated necessary application geochemical methods in search the mineral deposites. An important cycle of his researches was devoted to granitic pegmatite.
   Aleksandr E. Fersman was an academician-secretary of physics and mathematics Department AS USSR (1927-1929), a member of Presidium AS USSR (1929-1945), a director of Radium Institute (1922-1926), a chairman of the Ural department AS USSR (1932-1938), a chairman of the Kola Base and then Kola department of AS USSR (1930-1945), a director of Institute of crystallography, mineralogy and geochemistry (1930-1939) and Institute of geologic science.
